While talking about Toy Cleaners isn’t as nearly as fun or sexy as discussing the hottest dildos out there, it’s pretty important. It’s really important to take care of your toys for a couple of reasons. First, you want to get the most out of your investment – cleaning your toys is a big part of proper maintenance. Secondly, and most importantly, a dirty toy is one that spreads all sorts of germs and bacteria and that’s not good for anyone.

I love Pjur Lube, so when I saw that they made toy cleaning wipes I had to check them out. They’re really convenient and work really well, but since I’m trying to keep an eye out on my carbon footprint, I only use these for travel.  They’re a lot more convenient when you’re on the road, especially with the restrictions on liquids if you’re flying.  When I’m at home, I use a bottle of their Spray Cleaner.

Another product that I have used is Climax Bursts Toy Cleaner, and while I prefer Pjur, this is a good product that’s a little more affordable if you’re looking to save a few bucks. Honestly, the reason I like Pjur is because I think the spray bottle is more convenient, but there’s nothing wrong with this stuff. The gel formula also helps to make sure you don’t end with it every where!

I have a lot to be thankful for in my life. In honor of turkey day, I thought I’d go ahead and make a list of the five sex toys that have rocked my world. This isn’t really a list of my five favorite toys today, although you’ll find a couple on here, but a list of those that have enabled my girl and I to explore new sexual realms and experience insane pleasure while bringing us closer!

The Little Flirt

1. Little Flirt – This is the first anal toy I ever used and let me just say it opened the door to all sorts of fun. It’s great for beginners because of the small size and the fact that it’s made out of silicone, so it’s safe and can be sterilized!  I feel super lucky to have started off with such an amazing toy.

2. Mia – I friggin’ love this little guy. While it’s not the most powerful vibe in the world, it’s a must have for women like me that travel a lot. While I realize that there are more important thing to be thankful for like family and friends, there’s no doubt that a good sex life is part of a satisfying life! Last week, I talked about the pros and cons of water-based lubricant.  I thought this would be the perfect time to highlight one of my go to lubes, Pjur Eros Original Aqua Body Glide.  With the number of silicone toys I’ve accumulated, I couldn’t live without a bottle of this stuff.

The main reason I like Aqua is that one application lasts a long time. One common complaint about water-based lubricant is that it gets sticky and you have to either re-activate with water or reapply all together. Besides being kind of gross, it’s inconvenient and frustrating. Nothing will kill the mood like scrambling for the bottle of lube you knocked off of the nightstand in the throes of passion.

Another reason I often reach for Aqua is that this thin lube seems to enhance a woman’s natural wetness. It is odorless and tasteless, which anyone who has ever ended up with a mouth full of lube can attest to, is a very important thing. For me, a good lube does it’s job without taking over the show and that’s just what this one does.

While I am pretty confident that I will never declare one lube to be the only kind I’ll ever need, this is as close to an every day bottle as I have. It’s what I grab when I don’t want to think – I’m sure you know the feeling.

Lube is Awesome!

I’m a huge advocate of lube and think that everyone should own a few bottles.  Bill wrote a great piece about the importance of selecting the right lube for your toy, but I thought I would write a little bit about silicone lubrication specifically.

The first thing you should always remember about a silicone product is that it can’t be used with your silicone toys.   It will react with the toy causing the material to break down.  I’m probably starting to sound like a broken record regarding this, but I’d hate for anyone to ruin  a nice toy because they grabbed the wrong lube.

You may ask why not just use a water-based lube all the time?  Well, that’s definitely an option, but I personally think there are some advantages to a silicone product and that different situations call for different personal lubricants.

One time when silicone lube is a must, in my opinion, is if you’re looking to get wet and wild.  Water-based lube is virtually useless in the shower or hot tub for obvious reasons.  A good silicone lube won’t wash away as easily and will keep things nice and slippery!

In my experience, silicone lubes also tend to last a lot longer.  That means you don’t have to stop and reapply throughout your play and a little bit goes a long way.  While they are often a little more expensive, a drop or two is all you really need.

Because it tends to last longer, a lot of people I’ve talked to prefer silicone-based products for anal play.  There’s no natural lubrication in your butt, so it’s really important to make sure for your pleasure and safety to keep everything plenty slippery.

In the interest of full disclosure, silicone lube is not perfect.  While silicone lube is great for playing in the water, it also can be a bitch to clean up compared to water-based products and has been known to stain sheets.  Some people don’t like the feeling of silicone lube, although it doesn’t  bother me.  I do have to agree that water-based lubes more closely mimic a woman’s natural lubrication.

One final thing you should always do before purchasing a lube is to read the label. Unless you’re a fan of yeast infections, I would suggest avoiding any thing that has any sugar derivatives or glycerin in it. You should also keep an eye out for parabens because there is some question as to how safe they really are. Of course, whether we’re talking lubricant or well drinks from the dive bar on the corner, it’s always important to keep track of what’s going in your body!

In the end, lube is a very personal thing and my favorite may do nothing for you.  However, one thing I feel confident is saying is that lube will definitely enhance whatever goes on behind your bedroom doors.
