A Buyer’s Guide For Strap-On Sex
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009Curious about strap-on sex but unsure where to start? Strap-on play is really popular, but before you dive right in and buy some toys, there are a few things you should think about. If you’re looking to play golf, it’s important to research your clubs first if you want to be successful – the same research is required if you want to set the bedroom on fire with a scorchin’ hot strap-on session!
The first thing to consider is whether or not a dildo is compatible with the harness you want to use. There are two basic strap-on systems, the Vac-U-Lock system from Doc Johnson and O-Ring Harnesses. I personally prefer the O-Ring system because it’s not restricted to one toy company so there’s more variety. Of course, if you already have a Vac-U-Lock system, don’t worry because they make a wide variety of toys and I’m sure you won’t get bored any time in the near future.
With an O-Ring Harnesses, the dildo is held in place by a ring of plastic, silicone or metal ring that also determines the maximum diameter of the toy used. If you have a harness with a 1.5 inch o-ring and a dildo with a 2 inch diameter dong, you won’t be able to use them together. Of course, a number of rigs come with interchangeable o-rings, so you can use different size rings with different dildos. Since I agree that variety is the spice of life, I think this is a very good thing.
Whether you’re thinking about getting your first harness or a seasoned cock slinger, you need a really great dildo to make the most of your strap-on sessions. While a harnesses construction, comfort and effectiveness is really important, you’re not going to maximize the pleasure if you aren’t using the right dick.
Besides size, another really important thing to think about when picking up a new cock for strap-on sex is the design. If a dildo does not have a flared base like the Mistress pictured here, it will not work with your o-ring harness because there’s nothing to hold it in place!
Of course, you should also consider the material your dong is crafted from. I’m guessing you’re going to be strapping, so spending a few bucks on a silicone toy that can be sterilized is a great idea. Silicone is also phthalate-free, hypoallergenic and made to last a lifetime if properly cared for.
If you’re interested in the Vac-U-Lock system, let me tell you a little bit about that. Doc Johnson’s patented system is known for being really secure. You don’t have to worry about your dildo slipping out of the harness and it offers a lot of control. The dildo and harness are connected via their unique plug.
While the system is very secure, I will remind you once again that it is only compatible with Doc Johnson Vac-U-Lock products. They offer everything from vibrating dongs, to double dildos and monster cocks, so there’s plenty of variety, but it is definitely worth thinking about if you already have a few harness compatible dildos you could incorporate into your strap-on sessions.
Finally, regardless of what kind of harness you decide on, take the time to really think about what kind of dildo you want to use and why. If you’re looking to experiment with pegging for the first time, you’re boy will probably be far more receptive if you start off with a smaller toy. If you love g-spot stimulation, make sure your toy is designed to hit that magic button. Of course, take a little time to think about your sexual well-being and choose toys that are made from quality materials.
Strap-on sex is a ton of fun and a great way to change things up in the bedroom. With a little research and an open mind, you’re in for a great time!
